NEWS

SUBJECT DATE USER
New Site 18-06-07 twixn It has been a while since I updated this site.
Although I have been hard at work on another site, which
is mature enough to get a link from here.

SubDraw Project Website.

The new site is made by myself via a content managment
system called Joomla. The new site is about The SubDraw
Project, which is the future open source engine I plan
on releasing soon.

Anyway, the new site has more news.

Sigh 13-03-07 twixn *sigh*

Im changing the 'release' system. From a constantly
pushed back deadline to simply updating you on the
progress. Using percentages.

Due to Uni, and of course the difficulty of making
decent non-repetitive levels has pushed back the release
date yet again.

So, here is the first progress report:

Coding: 99% done
Artwork: 25% done <- Lower than I'd like.

At least I have proper music now. Licenced quality
music. So, for anyone else making Indie games check out
Never or Forever.

Anyway, RH:WoA will be the only full game I will make.
Generating levels just does not interest me at all. So
in future I will just be releasing engine SDKs for
other people to use. The only games I will make will
pretty much just be tech demos and Frameworks for other
people to build off of.

The ReHashed SDK will probably be released before the
game, free to use for personal use. Commertial use however
will be a different story. It is not the same engine
used in RH:WoA, I'm redesigning it to be a combination
of very high level and low level, depending on how
you want to go. For example, its possible to set up
the engine, load and draw an animated model, and release
all of the resources in under 10 lines of code. However,
if you want to play around with vertex buffers and texture
texels etc, you can do that too.

It only supports fixed function rendering at the moment,
but I plan to change that, perhaps in the second release.
And it only has a graphics component at the moment, I will
add components like sound and physics later.

But anyway, A lesson to you all,
If you plan on making a full game:

A) Don't commit to it like I did :P
B) Prepare to have your deadline absolutely
destroyed, especially if you are just a coder.
C) Don't leave level building till last, do it
as the engine progresses otherwise you will be left
with no precious coding to do and a ton of levels to
make.

Anyway, I don't feel too bad. I don't imagine anyone
is hanging out over my game anyway :P And I only know
of 1-2 people who read this anyway. And I think I may
have lost one of them due to me dropping linux support :P

Also, I've switched from SUSE 10.2 to Fedora Core 6.
Then I dumped FC6 because it is awful, I read a review
saying it was not ready for release and I have to agree.
So, I've switched to Kubuntu. I'm back to KDE, and I don't
regret it :D. I like Kubuntu. Easy, pretty and can do
everything I want it to.

PS: The ReHashed SDK will work on Windows (MSVC + MinGW)
and linux. No Mac support simply because I dont have one,
but in theory it should compile as I will only be using
cross platform libraries, such as SDL and OpenGL. Except
for Windows, which will have the added options of D3D9 and
D3D10 in the future. But again, I'll need a Mac to compile
it on, which I don't have.
Late 15-02-07 twixn Well, it looks like the deadline for the final
release will be pushed back. For two reasons:

Firstly, the deadline was rather short to
begin with. I would not have been able to add
as many levels as I'd like. I plan to make between
8-10 chapters. A about 3 levels each. At the
current rate I am going that will not happen by the
28th.

Secondly, There will be a major disruption to my
work due to significant hardware/software upgrades
and rebuilds. That will push the deadline back further.
At least I'll be able to get ReHashed 'Vista Ready' when
the dust settles :P

I want to try to finish WoA as soon as I can anyway.
I want to begin my next project, but I can't untill this
is off of the table. Also, to make things simpler, I may
be dropping Linux support.

Expect a mid-march release, for Windows XP and Vista.

The Beta 31-01-07 twixn Well, The beta is finally finished and released.
Check the download section for the download. :D

I'll post some screenshots, and the linux version
within the next few days. As well as a more in-depth
detail about the release.

Enjoy!

The Beta 29-01-07 twixn The beta is nearing completion. It should be done
by the 31st, or the 1st at the latest.

The main difference between the beta and the Alpha
is mostly more levels, as well as bug fixes, GUI
updates, and optimizations. I only really have two-three
more features planned for it before the final release.

Hopefully everyone likes it when it is done :D I've spent
alot of time on it and I enjoyed making it. I'm already
planning my next game (RPG, Woot), but I promised
myself I would get this done first.

That said, the complete game is a month off, I still have
all of the levels and weapons etc to do.
